It's about understanding a common problem.

It's common to feel backed up by constipation and other bowel dysfunction symptoms brought on by prescription pain medication. You are certainly not alone. Constipation is one of the most common side effects of bowel dysfunction caused by prescription pain medications that contain opiates. Although it is possible to manage chronic pain through opiate-based medications like Vicodin®, Percocet®, and OxyContin®, your physician may have warned you about a common side effect: constipation. You may even be experiencing abdominal pain and bloating related to your prescription pain medication and wondering to yourself...what’s next?

We – the physicians and medical professionals of the OPAL Study – understand that it can be frustrating to feel like you have started with one chronic medical condition only to be faced with another. That's why we are conducting the OPAL Study, which is examining an investigational drug to treat the symptoms of bowel dysfunction – such as constipation – that result from prescription pain medication. If you are being treated for chronic pain that is not related to cancer, you may want to learn more.
